Question
Short Answer
I only see black and white using my color infrared camera, why?
Infrared cameras have auto switching devices that sense the amount of light or illumination in front of the camera lens. In evenings, when the amount of sunlight decreases, the infrareds turn on and switch the camera image sensor to black and white mode to provide picture clarity in low light. Infrared sensors will also switch on in cases where there is a shade over the camera, such as from a nearby tree, building, or canopy. In this situation where there is a shade on the camera, the infrared sensor may think it is dark outside and switch to night vision mode, thus providing a black and white picture. To confirm that your camera is functioning properly, remove the camera from the installed location and test it in clear daylight to see if it provides a color picture.
